About the Group

Neurodivergent women have historically been overlooked and underdiagnosed, as symptoms of neurodivergence often appear differently in women than they do men.

In recent years, as more awareness has been brought to this disparity, more and more women are becoming aware of neurodivergence as part of their identity — but the awareness doesn’t undo years of misunderstandings from family, friends, and themselves — as well as guilt and shame about why “normal” things were so hard for them to do.

This group is designed to give these women a space to unburden themselves of guilt and shame, find community with others with similar experiences, and to learn and share skills, support, and encouragement.

What Can I Expect?

Pre-Group Interview

I will interview all participants before adding them to the group roster. During this interview, I will get to know each person a bit, ask questions about their hopes for the group, the topics they might like to discuss, set some expectations for group and give them an opportunity to ask questions.

First Session

During the first session, group members will introduce themselves, their goals for the group, and the “rules” for group conduct will be set. These rules will be generated collaboratively by the group. Members will also be given a rough outline of topics and decide how and in what order the group might like to address them.

During Group

This is a “fixed group” that will balance both processing (sharing experiences, successes, frustrations and setbacks) and skills, meaning that new members will not be added once the group has begun. This gives members a chance to focus on getting to know each other and deepening connections with each other. Because it is a fixed group, that means attendance is expected once someone has made the commitment to the group.

Ending Group

As the group comes to an end, members will be given a chance to reflect on their experiences with the group and offer feedback. This group is open for members to re-enroll
